3D demo of the flattening process · 40 seconds · No audio

On the left, an open book moves in 3D. On the right is a description of the current step. The bar at the bottom shows where you are, from capture to the finished page. The demo interface is in Korean only.

Try the 3D demo yourself (opens in a new tab)

You just take a photo, and the page comes out flat

An open book curves toward the spine, and the photo also catches the fingers holding the page and the shadow along the spine. When you shoot with vFlat, that photo immediately becomes a flat page that looks like it came from a photocopier.

To show what happens inside the app in that short moment, the vFlat development team built a 3D demo. You can watch the video above, or use the link below it to rotate the book yourself and step through each stage.

Read the curve, then flatten it

First, AI reads how the page in the photo is curved. Imagine a fine grid drawn on a flat page: the AI works out, in one pass, where that grid sits in the photo. That grid is the shape of the curved page.

Next, each cell of the grid is cut from the photo and redrawn onto a straight rectangle, which straightens the curved lines of text. Any slight waves that remain can be found and corrected once more. That is what Straighten in Premium does.

Clean up shadows and fingers, and you're done

Finally, the shadow near the spine and the yellowed paper tone are removed, the fingers holding the page are erased, and the margins outside the page are cropped. A single photo of a curved book becomes a clean scan.

All of this happens on your phone right after you take the shot. Your photo is not sent to a server to be flattened or cleaned up.

Good to know about the demo

The video and 3D demo are illustrations made to show the process clearly. The book and grid are drawn for explanation, not taken from the actual app screen or actual processing results. The playback speed has nothing to do with how long the app actually takes.
